About Me
As an indigenous CHamoru and Japanese woman from the island of Guåhan (Guam, USA), I feel empowered to pursue a career in research focused on the Marianas Islands and systems in the South Pacific.
I am interested in the topics of herpetology, conservation, tropical ecology, and evolution. I have also recently become curious in genetic data and the pathways through conservation through an integrative biology framework.
I plan to build on my research background in the next year post-baccalaureate and ultimately hope to obtain a PhD. in Integrative Biology or Ecology. With this career, I aspire to give back to the island that raised me by contributing to research and work that can preserve it, influence more environmental and culture-centered policy, and increase the knowledge of our ecosystems and its struggles.
I believe that ensuring the survival and perseverance of Guåhan in turn ensures that of the CHamoru people.
